Head of Payroll

We now look to hire a Head of Payroll for all employees in Haldor Topsoe A/S in Denmark. You will be responsible for one employee at our headquarters in Lyngby, and three employees at our plant in Frederikssund.

One of your important tasks will be to form one team that is able to cover both locations, in such a way that all tasks will be handled in the most efficient way, with high quality across. You will report to the Head of Global Rewards, Mobility and Travel, who is part of the Global HR Leadership team. We use SAP Nettoløn and our payroll is handled on a monthly basis for approximately 2.000 employees in Denmark; 1.400 salaried employees and 600 hourly paid employees.

We expect to have a hand over period from the current Head of Payroll, who will retire no later than June 1, 2017. This will ensure a comprehensive handover where you will have the opportunity to document all existing processes, including the yearly salary adjustment process as well as the yearly bonus pay out.

In addition to your leadership responsibility you will primarily handle the daily tasks related to payroll for salaried employees in Denmark. Furthermore your responsibilities will include:

  • Strengthening processes and workflows
  • Legal counselling for our HR colleagues on employment related matters, including contact to DI on more complicated issues
  • Daily contact with employees and stakeholders in the company
  • Handling tasks related to our international employees stationed in Denmark as well as Danish employees relocated abroad, including shadow payroll and hiring-out of labor
  • Focus on professional and personal development of your team
  • Salary reconciliation together with the Finance Department
  • Coordination with the HR Support team in Lyngby, who is responsible for creating and maintaining core data in SAP (OM and PA)
  • Applying for refunds and subsidies
  • Register data to public authorities
  • Pension administration
  • Vacation administration
  • Preparing mandatory data and statistics  


You work in a structured manner with focus on quality and well documented processes. You are described as a service minded, highly engaged and proactive person. You practice a style of clear and consistent communication no matter who you talk to, and you thrive in a dynamic work environment with many deadlines.


You have an educational background minimum at bachelor level within finance or administration, or similar. In addition, you have some years of experience as a manager of a Payroll function, preferable in a mid-size or large manufacturing company. You are familiar with salary and time registrations in SAP Nettoløn, are excel super user and are used to handle collective agreements –both for salaried as well as hourly paid employees. You have extensive knowledge about Danish employment law, and applicable tax rules within personal taxation. Further we expect you to be proficient in spoken and written English.
