Principal Scientist for Cardiovascular Research

About the department
Cardiovascular Research is a new department in Global Research, Novo Nordisk, dedicated to research within cardiovascular diseases (CVD). As part of Novo Nordisk’s new strategy within chronic diseases, this department has a focus towards target identification, validation and pre-clinical progression of new treatment options within CVD. The department consists of 18 employees of which 8 are technical staff. We develop, characterise and use in vitro assays, mode-of-action studies and animal models for early evaluation of drug candidates for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Laboratory work is carried out by technical staff and scientists as well as outsourced as contract research.
We are seeking a talented Principal Scientist to join our team. You will be part of a multidisciplinary project group identifying new treatment options for CVD. We seek an expert within in vitro, in vivo and/or ex-vivo models related to heart failure. The job encompasses active engagement in innovation within research that has potential to substantially impact future CVD treatment. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategy and execution for projects in the heart failure area, including designing studies to validate human relevance, translational animal studies as well as mechanism of action. Responsibility will also include proposal of novel targets and championship across the different areas. The successful candidate will work closely with other team members to move projects forward across the value chain.
This position requires extensive and close collaboration with the Translational Biomarker and Translational Medicine functions for alignment on key translational readouts. In addition, close interactions with other functions such as bioinformatics, safety, etc. will be a must.
MD or PhD and have experience in biological sciences with in-depth knowledge and proven scientific track-record in heart failure Pathophysiology with a special emphasis on cardiac remodelling (mandatory). More than 5 years industrial experience within heart failure pharmacology, alternative more than 5 years running own group as Associate Professor or Professor in Academia (mandatory).
You have in depth understanding in relevant Biology, animal models & human translation. Clinical experience or close relation to clinical functions, i.e. evaluation of biomarkers, bridging to the clinic related to heart failure is a plus. Solid international scientific network is mandatory. Holding an international Ph.D., post doc or work experience is an advantage.
